Secretive
powerbroker
Bill Gates is basically an emotional, imaginative and
secretive person. He lives a strong and rich inner life,
which means he has a tendency to let his imagination evoke
all sorts of positive and negative thoughts and feelings.
Once he has set his sights on something he is very determined,
headstrong and focused. When interested in a project he
has the ability to concentrate intensely, excluding everything
else. This means he is an "all or nothing" person.
He is not "wishy-washy". Either he likes something
or he doesn't. And if he is going to do something, he
wants to be able to go the distance.
Bill needs to be in total control over his interests and
projects. This means he dislikes people who try to control
him, as well as situations that leave him powerless. He
doesn't like strangers to invade his privacy for the same
reason. |
How to approach him:
Don't presume that you know him or try to get to know him
too quickly. Allow him the space to come to trust you or confide
in you. He does not like people who presume to know him or
who try to create a "hey, old buddy" situation.
Don't overdo it on the praise, as he'll think you are either
pulling his leg or trying to get something like money from
him. He's more comfortable with being told that he's a "jerk"
as he has a cynical sense of humor. He can handle negativity
but isn't comfortable with praise. Still, don't be negative
unless you know him well.
Be neutral, when presenting a proposal to him, not pushy.
Leave him alone when he has to make a decision and when he
is working on a project. He likes to be alone. When meeting
with him, expect to be asked in great detail about the matter
at hand. Be prepared to discuss both worst-case and best-case
scenarios and to focus on a single issue for a long time.
(If he does not focus deeply on the issue at hand, he's not
really interested.) Don't expect him to deal with a number
of matters at the same time, not if you want to get the best
out of him. He's not really a very flexible person. (Sun in
